Obituary for Leo Cash

Leo Cash, age 96, passed away, at his home at Risen Son, on May 6, 2019.

He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 20, 1922, to the late Sam and Theresa (Bosco) Cash. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class of 1942. On October 9, 1948, Leo was united in marriage to Lloydine Coleman, and was blessed with daughter, Linda Sue. Leo worked as a postal carrier until his retirement in 1981. In high school, Leo played football and was a formidable grappler. Leo served in the US Navy, and there, wrestled for the Alameda Hellcats. He was the former Commander of the Council Bluffs American Legion Rainbow Post #2, a former member of the Executive Board, a Congregator for American Legion Military Funerals, and a member of the Legion Honor Guard Firing Squad. In 1960, Leo started youth wrestling along with Frank Jerkovich and Lou Massey.

Leo refereed wrestling and boxing, and umpired softball for over 58 years, finally hanging it up in 2001. He was past president of the Midwest Umpires Associations, a charter member of the Iowa Boys and Girls High School Athletic Associations, and Amateur Softball Association (A.S.A.). He umpired Girls High School and College games in the metro and Southwest, Iowa. In 2015, Leo was inducted into the Abraham Lincoln High School Hall of Fame.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Theresa Hecht, Josephine Garafalo, Angela Cash, Mary Roberts and Catherine Stewart.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lloydine; daughter, Linda (Chris) Manz; grandsons, August (Tami) Manz, Adam (Mandy) Manz; great-grandchildren, Mahri and Zander Manz; sister, Antoinette “Toni” Allmon.
