Obituary for Joy B. Gorman

Joy B. Gorman, 91, departed peacefully to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 29, 2018. As her name implies, she brought “joy” to everyone she met and she displayed a kind heart to all that knew her.
Joy was born October 20, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Lloyd J. Williams and Bernice Scott Williams. She grew up in Omaha and attended St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. In 1947 she married Oren S. Gorman, a friend of her brother, who wrote to her as a marine overseas in WWII. They raised their family in Denison, Iowa. Joy worked in the local hospital and insurance agencies doing secretarial duties. After retiring to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1970 she and Oren traveled all 50 states as well as Australia.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the nursing staff at Renaissance Park in Benbrook, Texas for their devotion to Joy and to Hospice Plus of Fort Worth, Texas who kept her last days peaceful.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Oren Gorman, her son, Ross Gorman; her parents; and brothers, Lloyd Williams, Jr. and Gene Williams.
Survivors: Daughters, Dr. Linda Gorman of Lexington, Kentucky and Nina Duffy and her husband, Jerry of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Gorman of Omaha, Nebraska; granddaughter, Alison Emmitte and husband, Ryan of Keller, Texas; grandson, Ryan Duffy and wife, Jenna of Flower Mound, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Landon, Grayson, Holland, and Sloane.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
A memorial service will take place at a later date in Council Bluffs, and interment will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
