Eugene E. "Fritz" Rhedin, age 75, of Council Bluffs, passed away July 27, 2010, at Mercy Hospital.

Fritz was born December 30, 1934, in Omaha, Neb., to the late Emil and Doreen (Neihart) Rhedin. He attended Benson High School and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. Fritz married Carole Gallaher on October 19, 1956, in Hawthorne, California. He retired in 1998 from Local #39, Heat and Frost Insulator's Union after a 38 year career. Fritz attended Salem United Methodist Church; was a member of Local #39 and Make-A-Wish Foundation and was a former member of the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; sisters, Lois Dick, Susan White and Marilyn Holck.

Fritz is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carole Rhedin; daughters, Lori Shanks, Cheryl Larkin and husband, Alan, all of Council Bluffs, Peggy Gage and husband, Marlin, of Emerson, Iowa; son, Daniel Rhedin and wife, Carolyn, of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Eric, Trevor, Nathan, Jacob and Tara Rhedin, Kyle, Adam and Allison Larkin, Mallory and Emily Shanks, Megan Gage and McKenzie Houser (Ivan); great granddaughter, Breelyn Houser; brother, Roland (Pat) Rhedin of Mondamin, Iowa; sisters, Marlene Runge, of Omaha, Carol (Carl) Runge, of Louisville, Neb., Becky Beel, of Yucca Valley, Calif.; sister-in-law, Sharon Bjork, of Omaha; brother-in-law, Dennis (Dora) Gallaher, of Avoca, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation with the family, Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral Service, Friday, 10 a.m., at Salem United Methodist Church. Rev. Laurice Streyffeler, interim pastor will officiate. Interment Cedar Lawn Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. A lunch will follow at the church. The family will direct memorial contributions.
