Herbert Henry Honig, age 85, passed away July 26, 2010, at his residence at Primrose.


He was born in Boomer Township on October 20, 1924, to Edwin and Myrtle Hardesty Honig, and was a 1942 graduate of Glenwood High. Herbert served his country in the Merchant Marines during W.W. II, twice having his ship torpedoed. Herbert and wife, Barbara J. were married 63 years and were lifetime members of Emanuel Lutheran Church. He also belonged to the Tangier Shrine. Herbert owned and operated Herbie's Union 76 Truck Stop, retiring in 1979.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Myrtle; wife, Barbara J. Honig, 12-27-2009; two sisters, Ella M. Detlef and Hertha Ciccarello; three brothers, Roy, Richard and Sully Honig.

Survivors include daughters, Sandra Spreeman and husband, Glenn, of Norfolk, Janice Paulson and husband, Dan, of Council Bluffs; sons, Ed and wife, Carol, of Omaha, Bob and wife, Bonnie, of Bellevue, Neb.; sister-in-law, Mary Honig, of Oceanside, Calif.; 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren.

Visitation with family, Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Funeral services Thursday, 2 p.m., also at church. Pastor Judy Wozniak, officiant. Interment Hazel Dell Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at Emanuel Lutheran. Family has suggested memorials to Emanuel Lutheran Church and Primrose.
